Good morning boys,

Today we are going to learn distributive law of multiplication over addition.

So let us find 7 x (5 + 11) in 2 different ways:

First way- 7 x (5 + 11)= 7 x 16 = 112

Second way - 7 x (5 + 11)
                     = 7 x 5  + 7 x 11
                     = 35      +  77
                     = 112
Similarly we can verify that 
12 x (15 + 18) = 12 x 15 + 12 x 18

If a,b and c are any three whole no.s, then 
a x (b + c) = a x b + a x c


This is known as distributive law of multiplication over addition





Multiplication is distributive over subtraction.

let us find 6 x (13 - 5) in 2 different ways 

First way - 6 x (13 - 5) = 6 x 8 = 48 

Second way - 6 x (13 - 5)
                     = 6 x 13  - 6 x 5
                     =  78       - 30
                     = 48

From the above example, it says that
If  a, b, c are whole numbers and b>c , then

a x (b - c) = a x b - a x c

This is known as distributive law of multiplication over subtraction.

Let us now attempt Q3 

Q3 a. 297 x 17 + 297 x 3
         =297 [17 + 3] 
             = 297 x 20
         =5940

d. [3845 x 5 x 782] + [769 x 25 x 218]
   =[19225 x 782] + [19225 x 218]
   = 19225[782 + 218]
   = 19225 x 1000
   = 19225000
