EX.3.7 PROBLEM SUMS(POST4)
SOLUTIONS EX - 3.7 - 7, 8 AND 9 - POST 4
GOOD MORNING BOYS
IN TODAY'S LESSON WE WILL CONTINUE WITH THE WORD PROBLEMS.
Q 7, 8 AND 9 have been solved for you.
Look at the solutions carefully. Another sum of the similar kind follows each of these sums.
This is to test whether you have understood the given sum.
Copy down these sums in your notebook. If you have a problem, please ask in the comments box given below.
7. Three tankers contain 403 litres, 434 litres and 465 litres of diesel respectively. Find the maximum capacity of a container that can measure the diesel of the three containers exact number of times.
Solutions: [You can use the division method to find out the HCF too]
HCF of 403, 434, 465 = Maximum capacity of tanker required
403 = 13 × 31
434 = 2 × 7 × 31
465 = 3 × 5 × 31
HCF = 31
Hence, a container of 31 litres can measure the diesel of the three containers exact number of times.
7a. There are 527 apples, 646 pears and 748 oranges. These are to be arranged in heaps containing the same number of fruits. Find the greatest number of fruits possible in each heap. - SOLVE
8. Find the least number which when divided by 6, 15 and 18 leave remainder 5 in each case.
Solutions:
LCM of 6, 15, 18

LCM = 2 × 3 × 3 × 5 = 90
Required number = 90 + 5
= 95
Hence, 95 is the required number.
8a. Find the least number which when divided by 25, 40 and 60 leaves 9 as a remainder in each case. [SOLVE]
9. Find the smallest 4-digit number which is divisible by 18, 24 and 32.
Solutions:
LCM of 18, 24, 32

LCM = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 = 288
Here, we need to find the smallest 4-digit multiple of 288
We find 288 × 3 = 864 and 288 × 4 = 1152
Hence, 1152 is the smallest 4-digit number which is divisible by 18, 24 and 32
9A. Find the least 5 digit number that is exactly divisible by 16, 18, 24 and 30.
I hope you found it easy to solve sums 7a, 8a and 9a using the solved examples. All you need to do is be VERY CAREFUL while finding out the HCF and LCM. Please copy down these sums in your rough notebook.
